Sheet Music and its impotance

Sheet music is a hand-written or printed form of musical notation; like its analogs—books, pamphlets, etc.—the medium of sheet music typically is paper (or, in earlier times, parchment), although the access to musical notation in recent years includes also presentation on computer screens. Use of the term "sheet" is intended to differentiate music on paper from an audio presentation, which would ensue from a sound recording, broadcast, or live performance, which may involve video as well. In everyday use, "sheet music" (or simply "music") can refer to the print publication of commercial music in conjunction with the release of a new film, show, record album, or other special or popular event which involves music.

Free Sheet music can be used as a record of, a guide to, or a means to perform, a piece of music. Although it does not take the place of the sound of a performed work, sheet music can be studied to create a performance and to elucidate aspects of the music that may not be obvious from mere listening. Authoritative musical information about a piece can be gained by studying the written sketches and early versions of compositions that the composer might have retained, as well as the final autograph score and personal markings on proofs and printed scores.

Modern sheet music may come in different formats. If a piece is composed for just one instrument or voice (such as a piece for a solo instrument or for a cappella solo voice), the whole work may be written or printed as one piece of sheet music. If an instrumental piece is intended to be performed by more than one person, each performer will usually have a separate piece of sheet music, called a part, to play from. This is especially the case in the publication of works requiring more than four or so performers, though invariably a full score is published as well. The sung parts in a vocal work are not usually issued separately today, although this was historically the case, especially before music printing made sheet music widely available.

Latest Windsors Updates Get it Now

several articles of the Duke of Windsor clothing were listed for auction. The site contained very nice photos of his belongings. Very interesting to look at and admire.

A question of mine is, after noticing that many of the front bands of his dress shirt's did not continue all the way down to the bottom, was it standard practice of the time to construct the fronts in a "tunic design". Or was this the Duke's preference? Today, obviously, we see the standard of the front being cut in a "coat design". That's the terms that Parsons uses in his book 'Shirts And Cotton Garments' with regard to the front. Also, was there a added benefit to this "tunic design"?

How to Style Hair With Gel

Styling gel has been around for ages and is a great tool to get the shape you want for your hair. It's also easy and fun to use. There are many different brands of gel available in stores, but the basic steps to use the gel properly are the same.

Instructions

  • 1
Wash your hair thoroughly with your favorite shampoo. Use a conditioner if desired. Styling hair is always easier if it is clean. When using hair gel, it's best to decide if you want your hair to have a wet look or a dry look once it is styled. With hair gel, it's possible to have either.

  • 2
Apply the gel to your damp hair. This is to be done if you are going for a wet look. If you want a dry look, skip to Step 3. It is important not to use a blow dryer on your hair after you apply gel to it as this can cause a drying effect on your hair. Apply the gel, shape your hair as desired, and then allow your hair to air dry.

  • 3
Apply the gel to your hair after you blow dry. Once you have applied the gel to your hair, shape you hair into the style you desire. Gel can help you create many different looks with your hair. Don't be afraid to experiment. There is no need to apply gel all over unless you wish to do so. It's OK to apply gel just in the areas you want to shape. Only a small amount of gel should be used on hair that has been blown dry.

  • 4
Allow the gel to set. Give yourself about 30 minutes for it to set completely. If you apply hair gel and then jump immediately into a convertible with the top down, you are going to have a big mess when you reach your destination and this mess will be hard to fix. This step applies to both wet hair styling and dry hair styling.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Wide-toothed combs and hair picks are easier to use when styling hair with hair gel in it. Avoid using a hair brush if possible.
    • Hair gel is rumored to cause follicle damage. Use it sparingly.
    • Buy a hair gel that does NOT contain alcohol. Alcohol can dry out your hair. Check the label. Water-based gels are available.
    • Refrain from using a blow dryer on hair that has hair gel in it, whether it is wet or dry, unless you are going for a really stiff look.

  • Search engine optimization and Blog reviews

Search engine optimization (SEO) has started turning submission to blog directory and articles to its advantage. You could have an excellent website, and you may have the latest e-commerce technology and the best graphic design work. Now comes the tricky part: choosing an SEO firm. There's a long list of SEO firms claiming that they can do submission to directories, link building and article submission, but does a chocolate website really need to build links to an oil merchant directory? yes its really work and blog review is one of these.
Google has implemented LSI and has already started shunting out link farms, and pointless paid links. For any SEO firm or webmaster, the most worthwhile ways forward are articles and other web contents. Not only does our article submission service ensure that all incoming links to your site are 'relevant,' we also ensure that your precious time and resources are not wasted on futile link building.
Our submission services ensure that each manual directory, we submit to is relevant to your site; each directory is chosen based on pedigree and reliability. Any major search engine that actually catalogues and indexes a directory has to meet certain criteria. Our service ensures that each directory, we submit to has been thoroughly researched and not blacklisted by any search engine. Better still,- we offer only one-way linking services so no reciprocal links are required.

Ecommerce And The Power Of Free

Ecommerce And The Power Of Free
There is a powerful word in marketing. This word is challenging the thinking of many who have been in business for a while. This word strikes fear in the heart of many business owners because it just doesn’t seem possible.

That marketing word in question is – FREE.

Watch television and you will see that cell phone companies will routinely give their phones away for free. Banks offer free snacks when you drop by for a visit and a free gift when you sign up for an account.

Websites offer free services to anyone who visits their site. Music download companies offer free downloads with a membership.

Wikipedia offers free information. The web itself is an incredibly large global entitlement program. Customers have come to expect free stuff. If you don’t have it they will just keep looking for the all-important FREE until they find it.

Honestly the expectation for free products, services or downloads is huge. The role of the Internet has made this a reality.

How does a business cope? After all, logic itself dictates that nothing is free. Someone has to pay for free information. Someone has to pay for free products, and downloads have value.

The truth is websites have had to evaluate how they do business in the 21st century.

If the expectation of the consumer is that they can always find a free phone for cell service does it make sense to try to sell a phone to a customer who knows they can find one for free at another store? The reality is the cost of the phone will be factored into the obligatory service plan. The customer is happy with their free phone and the business recoups their costs over the life of the cell phone plan. Both are happy.

In an online environment free downloads or information can be offset by banner ads, PPC ads or sponsor listings.

Businesses are increasingly looking to freelance writers to supply fresh content for their sites. So in the end the burden of information sharing costs the business owner money. However this can be offset either by advertising or as a means to develop improved marketing efforts.

Free doesn’t have to be a dirty word in business, it simply means that the business owner has to develop creative ways to pay for what is given away. Sometimes this cost is actually taken care of by the consumer or by advertisers who believe that the free item will bring increasing foot traffic to your site and ultimately to their site.

In an online environment this concept is what I like to call Trust Marketing. I’ve talked about it in other articles, but the point is by providing high quality at no cost you leave multiple choices in the hands of your site visitor and they like the feeling of empowerment.

The prevailing premise is that your good will gesture translates into trust. That trust is then transformed into a purchase.

The idea is to help potential customers see that even when no money is involved you will still choose to provide free tools or products to help your customer succeed.

You figure out how to pay for “FREE”. Your site visitor may learn to reward your generosity with a business proposition of his or her own. That is the beauty of trust marketing.

    Home Remedies for BED BUGS

    Home Remedies for BED BUGS
Youve probably read or heard about the horror stories associated with the small insects that feed on human blood in the night. They attack when you are sleeping and are quite adaptable in most of the environments catering to humans. This is the life of a bed bug and contrary to popular belief “

They surround themselves beyond unsanitary and unkempt conditions “ even striking the ritziest of five-star hotels. While professional extermination is almost always the only way to eliminate the problem, there are a few home remedies associated with the dreaded bed bug.

    What are Bed Bugs?
Waiting until the night to attack their victims, the small nocturnal insect known as the bed bug belongs to the family Cimicidae, which is known to feed on blood. While humans are commonly referred to as the main sufferers of this pest, the bed bug also seeks out other warm-blooded hosts for their meals. With a past that traces back to ancient history, the common bed bug (Cimex lectularius) has learned to successfully adapt to the same living spaces as humans

With a preference to temperate climates, the bed bug is often found in warm temperatures, especially in locales such as Florida and the tropics of West Africa and South America. It is there that various species of the bed bug infest poultry, bats, humans, and other types of birds.

When the bed bug reaches maturity, it is reddish brown in color with a flattened, oval appearance. On their body, microscopic hairs give off a banded appearance. They possess no wings. Some people believe that bed bugs are so small that they cannot be seen by the naked eye. This is not the case, as some adults reach length of 4 to 5 millimeters (which translates into 1/8 to 3/16 of an inch). Their size is comparable to that of an apple seed. Since bed bugs are extremely shy and wary of others, an infestation of the insect is quite hard to pinpoint

When feeding, the bed bug is typically active only at night with the most activity taking place an hour before dawn. Using two hollow tubes, the bed bug pierces the skin of their host and draws blood. One tube injects an anticoagulant into their victim, while the other tube is used for blood extraction. Average feeding times are about five minutes, where the bug then returns to their place of hiding. At the time of the bite, a victim is unaware, although late reactions come minutes to hours later. In the home, the bed bug seeks many different places to hide during the day, including linens, drapery, headboards, desks, nightstands, artwork frames, mattresses, and clothing. With the use of a flashlight, you may find a bed bug crawling about at night. Additional signs, such as blood spots help detect an infestation.

Signs of a Bed Bug Infestation
The best way to detect a bed bug infestation is to call upon a professional, who will complete an inspection of your home. In case you wish to analyze your surroundings before hiring someone out of the Yellow Pages, some of the signs to seek out include:

    a) Bug Bites:
Even though you may display bed bug bites on your body that occur during the night, this is not a sure sign that a bed bug was the culprit.

    b) Blood:
The sight of dried blood (referred to as fecal spots) may appear on the box spring, behind the headboard, as well as about the seams of a mattress.

    c) Bed Bug Skins:
A bed bug sheds skin during their nymphal stage, which looks like a hollowed-out bug.

    d) Bed Bug Eggs:
About 1 millimeter in length, the eggs of the bed bug are rather difficult to pinpoint, but are still visible “ resembling the shape of rice.

    Risk Factors
Bed bugs do not feed on dirt, debris, or crumbs, meaning an unclean environment is not the primary target for the insect to dwell. Bed bugs feed on blood and it is advantageous for them to seek out places where warm-blooded individuals are present. This is why places, such as hospitals, hotels, motels, inns, and cruise ships are perfect living quarters for a bed bug.

When bed bugs find their way into a home, there are plenty of different methods to their madness. When guests of a hotel settle in for the night, bed bugs may climb into their luggage, where they are then transported to a new environment. Bed bugs also travel by way of used furniture purchased at a garage sale or thrift shop. The same is true with used clothing, as bed bugs are known to hide in the crevices and folds of material.

In multi-unit dwellings, such as condominiums and apartment buildings, bed bugs find their way throughout the premises by moving about the walls, cracks, pipes, and wires. New residents may bring bed bugs into a living space through their moving boxes, mattresses, pillows, and other belongings.

    Negative Effects of Bed Bugs
The pathogens found in the bodies of bed bugs have been connected to plague and hepatitis B, yet no conclusions have been made as to whether or not the insect is able to pass on disease to humans. While the threat of disease is of no consequence, the bed bug is seen as a rather unclean visitor that affects the sanitation of a household. One is embarrassed to admit they have bed bugs in their home. Additional negative outcomes associated with bed bugs include:

    a) Infection:
Those who scratch their bed bug bites may develop skin infections, which may leave behinds scars.

    b) Red, Itchy Welts:
The sight of a cluster of bed bug bites is quite alarming, especially when they claim large stretches of visible skin. The back, legs, and arms are common places that bed bugs attack.

    c) Stress:
A bed bug infestation is rather stressful with the potential to cause delusional parasitosis or even post-traumatic stress disorder in extreme cases.

    d) Poor Reaction to Saliva:
A handful of people may experience anaphylactic shock, as they suffer an allergic reaction to bed bug saliva.

    e) Extermination Costs:
Since bed bugs are very difficult to remove from a home or hotel, professional means of extermination creates extra bills for a family or business.

    f) Offensive Odor:
A strong scent comes with the presence of bed bugs, as they emit an oil-like liquid from their bodies.

    Home Remedies for Bed Bugs
When it comes to bed bugs, there isnt much a homeowner can do to get rid of these pesky intrusions on their own. Before calling professional help, some have found slight success with the following home remedies for bed bugs:

    a) Rubbing Alcohol:
While not a definite fix, spraying rubbing alcohol where bed bugs thrive may contain the problem by killing some on contact.

    b) Fruit and Vegetable Insecticides:
Some insecticides comprised of pyrethrins and canola oil are sometimes used by those who wish to lay down a home remedy that is safe for children and pets.

    c) Steam Treatments:
It is not uncommon to see some pest control companies use steam treatments to deal with mattresses and other pieces of upholstered furniture. While very limited effectiveness is associated with this type of remedy, it shows great promise in treating items with less than ½ inch of penetration. At home, one may use small steam cleaners to care for their mattresses and other bedding selections.

    d) Dry Heat :
Placing clothing, footwear, rugs, toys, stuffed animals, backpacks and other non-launderable items in the dryer for a certain length of time can conveniently remove bed bugs. When an average clothes dryer is run for five minutes at low, medium or high heat, they generate temperatures of about 140, 150 and 180 degrees (respectively). It is believed that when drying a bundle of infected clothes, high temperatures are able to kill bed bugs. It is suggested to run the dryer for more than 20 minutes.

    e) Hot Sun:
Since temperatures over 113 degrees are said to kill bed bugs, it is suggested to wash and dry clothing and linens at high temperatures. When living in a hot desert climate, you may hang your bedding and clothes in the beaming sun to destroy lingering bed bugs.

    Happy Employees Equal More Productivity

    Happy Employees Equal More Productivity

It sounds like an obvious clich? to say it, but like many clich?s there’s truth in it: happy employees are more productive. And yet it’s amazing how often you hear of companies suffering from massive turnover, instability and a failure to live up to their full potential by ignoring this.

Many small business owners will argue that they don’t have the budget to offer the kind of wages that will keep employees happy and focussed, but actually this is a misnomer.

You don’t need the biggest wallet in the world (though it wouldn’t hurt!) to bribe employees, and some of the best ways of keeping staff focussed and happy are free, just requiring a change in management mindset. The old adage that money can’t buy you happiness is worth considering - indeed in a survey of 2,000 workers, half said they would choose a low paying job they enjoyed over a high paying job they hated, and 38% said they would choose more free time over more money... So short of ineffective bribery, and unrealistic extra holiday time, here’s a few of the things to improve happiness in the workplace which won’t require you to make changes to your employment contracts and business documents...

    Give Responsibility
Unless an employee is truly incompetent (in which case they won’t be the ones you’re desperate to keep anyway) any member of staff can undertake some decisions and be allowed to work independently. You don’t need to entrust them with your key business documents, but allowing them some freedom can do wonders for job satisfaction. Allowing the employees this little bit of responsibility and freedom will not only make them feel valued, but also make them more loyal to the company as suddenly their decisions - however small - have an impact on whether the business sinks or swims.

    A Sense of Accomplishment
Workers aren’t keen on being cogs that are part of a bigger machine - or rather, they don’t mind, as long as they see that the machine achieves something! If each employee sees no tangible results from their day to day projects, then it’s no wonder they’d consider looking for an employment contract elsewhere.

    Create a Happy Family
Making sure you hire the right people is imperative. If people become good friends in the office, then the urge to move on can easily be blocked by the loss of friendships. Be careful who you hire, and avoid those who are likely to cause disharmony, no matter how talented they may be!

    Set Realistic Goals
One of the top reasons for normally satisfied employees seeking pastures new is an unrealistic workload and a set of unfair deadlines. Of course it’s important for a company’s growth to push staff to go that extra mile, but just make sure that mile doesn’t stretch into a full marathon! It’s a sure fire recipe to create (soon to be ex) employees who are both burned out and disillusioned.

    Avoid Monotony
Right up there with realistic goals as a cause for frustrations is asking your employees to do work with little to no variety. Doing the same work every day, every month is certain to make employees’ minds wander to greener pastures. Finding variety and different documents to work on isn’t hard, and it’s definitely something which will boost performance.

None of these things cost money or require changes to your employment contracts and business documents - they just require a little foresight and skilled management. If you tick the basic boxes, and offer wage rises and bonuses when deserved, you should be able to minimise disruption and create a happy, productive workplace that goes on to great things.

    Success is Okay!

    Success is Okay!
Did you know that it's perfectly alright to be successful?

    It is.
It's also entirely okay for you to have found the perfect job, to be in the ideal relationship, to not have to worry about money, to be able to spend your time "playing" in the garden when you want, or go to your kids' early morning tennis games because you can.

And best of all, if you can do any or all of those things, it's 100% Grade-A acceptable to enjoy it.

I bring this up because I've spoken with a lot of people recently who are having problems accepting the fact that -- in various and sundry ways -- they are successful, they have achieved the goals they set for themselves and can now enjoy the results.

You work so hard to achieve so much that it's a shame to not enjoy those good things that you create in your life.

Worse, it's an insult to your own dedication and hard work, and to the work of those who helped you along the way.

Stop denying your success. Stop hiding from the pleasures that you've earned. Stop being guilty because you've done some (or all) of what you set out to do.

Instead, enjoy it. Be happy with it. Model it to others. Share it.

Success is its own reward, but only if you accept it.

    Accept your success today!

    Decorating Rooms with High Ceilings

    Decorating Rooms with High Ceilings

High ceilings are a joy to look at and they spearhead feelings of elation in the hearts of people living in such houses.

The beauty of a coffered, vaulted or two-story ceiling can be quite mesmerizing, however, creating a comfortable and welcoming feeling to the space beneath it, can prove to be quite a challenge.

Though the elegance, drama and opulence added to the house by the high ceilings are phenomenal, decorating rooms with high ceilings has to be done skillfully. If the decoration has not been properly planned, it can make the room feel like an empty cave or auditorium.

    Choosing Right Color and Texture
Avoid painting the high ceilings white. This is because, white paint will cause the room to feel like an auditorium, thereby lacking the cohesiveness and warmth that a house should contain. Preferably use colors that are same as the walls to paint the ceilings. This will give the room a calming and inviting appeal. You could even use a new neutral to keep the room looking bright, however, add a wash of color to the high ceilings. Using warm, rose based gray, rustic terracotta, mellow yellow and other such colors will look good.

    Flooring
We often underestimate the role of the floor in making the rooms look cozy and inviting. Placing a large rug on wood floorings in high ceiling rooms can help reduce its cavernous feel. Choose a rug that complements the color scheme and place it in such a way that it creates a sense of coziness. Read more on flooring.

    Right Amount of Light
It's always best to consider the illumination plan while the house is being built. Homeowners should actually visualize their furniture settings, etc. during the construction phase so that they along with the electrician can work out the best wiring setup for the most appropriate lighting system of the room. Ensure that the electrician puts in general lighting, accent, task lighting and dimmers as well. In rooms with high ceilings, it is best to stick to taller table lamps that will fill more of the vertical space. Moreover, adding 24-26 inch wall scones can give the room a dramatic effect.

    Temperature Control
To keep the high ceilinged room from drawing the heat in, one should choose draperies with high insulation value. This makes it easier to manage cooling for the entire house. Moreover, for windows that are tough to handle thermally, one can opt for window films. These films eliminate the glare and also reduce solar heat gain. Window films come in various styles and purposes. Adding plush fabrics to any surface in such rooms are also a great idea, as they manage the temperature. Thick-pile Persian rugs, dense upholstery and hand-knotted Tibetans will reduce heat loss and maintain warmth in high ceiling rooms. During the summer months, it's wise to shift to lighter pieces like silk, cotton or lightweight linen slipcovers, which will make the space feel cooler.

    Wall Coverings and Windows
In high ceilinged rooms, sometimes windows go all the way up to the ceiling. However, even if they don't, it's better to hang the draperies high. This is because the room will look more balanced and will feel more comfortable. As far as wall coverings like art frames, etc. are concerned, it is wise to limit the number of frames being put up. The frames should preferably be few, but larger in size. Moreover, these frames should be placed at eye level. Read more on interior decorating.

Choosing and Arranging the Right Furniture
Furnishings play a major role in creating a sense of cohesiveness when it comes to decorating with high ceilings. Purchasing furniture pieces with taller backs, massive legs and arms, adequate cushioning, etc. help make the furniture gel better with the room. Small pieces of furniture will just be swallowed in such high ceilinged rooms. Moreover, the height of the walls will cause low-slung chairs to look dwarfed. Besides choosing the furniture, arranging them appropriately is also important. In such rooms, it is best to group furniture pieces together in different areas of the room, thereby, creating smaller seating areas which help alleviate the cavernous feel.

    Choosing a Personal Trainer

    Choosing a Personal Trainer
If you want to lose weight, get healthy and/or build muscle, hiring a personal trainer can be a step in the right direction. A good trainer can help you set up a program that meets your goals and teach you the best way to exercise. Here's what you should know before you hand over the cash.

    What is a Personal Trainer?

A personal trainer should be, at the least, educated and certified through a reputable fitness organization (see below). This person's job is to assess your fitness level, set up a program for you and keep you motivated. He or she will push you past your comfort level--something difficult to do on your own. A trainer also provides:

    * guidance on reaching your goals

    * education about strength training, cardio and basic nutrition

    * a reason to show up at the gym each week

    * accountability

    * ways to help track your progress

    What is a Session Like?
Each session lasts about an hour. The first meeting is devoted to assessing fitness level, body measurements, exercise and health history and goals. Be prepared to step on the scale, have your body fat tested and answer specific questions about your goals. After that, you'll spend most of your time on strength training and cardio.

What to Look for In a Personal Trainer

    * Education: A personal trainer should be certified through a reputable personal training organization. An exercise science or other related college degree isn't necessary, but the more education your trainer has, the better your workouts will be.

    * CPR: your trainer should have an updated certification in CPR and/or first aid.

    * Experience: Make sure your trainer has several years of experience, especially in relation to your goals. For example, if you're a bodybuilder, you want someone knowledgeable in that area.

    * Specifics: If you have a specific medical problem, injury or condition (such as being pregnant, heart problems, diabetes, etc.) make sure your trainer has education in these areas and will work with your doctor.

    * A good listener: A good trainer will listen closely to what you say and make sure he understands your goals.

    * Attention: A good trainer will be focused only on you during your sessions.

    * Tracking progress: A good trainer will regularly assess your progress and change things if necessary.

Personality is important too since you'll be working very closely with this person. Make sure you get along with your trainer and feel comfortable asking questions.

How to Find a Personal Trainer
One place to look is your local gym. Most gyms have personal trainers on staff and offer attractive packages for personal training. You can also look in your yellow pages, use a Personal Trainer Finder or search for personal training studios in your area to find a trainer. The cost will vary depending on where you live and your trainer's experience and education. Typically, the cost will be anywhere from $30 to $70 a session.

At some clubs, you may get assigned a trainer. However, one of my readers sent me these tips for doing a bit of investigation before you take the plunge:

    * Get a referral from a friend who's had success in reaching their goals with a personal trainer

    * When you're at the gym, watch trainers with their clients and see how they interact. Make a note of trainers who get along with their clients and seem fully involved in their workouts...that may be a good one to choose.

    * If you do get assigned to a trainer, make sure you tell the manager if you'd prefer a male trainer over a female trainer or vice versa, or if there's anything special you'd like to work on (getting in shape before pregnancy, getting ready for a marathon, etc.) so you'll get a trainer with experience in that area.

    A Tribute To Mothers

    A Tribute To Mothers
A mother is someone who guides and inspires.
She helps us to attain our dreams and desires.
Wisdom and insight are part of her way,
and her faith in her children brightens their days.
All mothers are rich when they love their children. There are no poor mothers, no ugly ones, no old ones. Their love is always the most beautiful of joys.
What a mother can do …
My mother said to me, "If you become a soldier, you'll be a general; if you become a monk, you'll end up as the pope." Instead I became a painter and wound up as Picasso.
A partially deaf boy came home from school one day carrying a note from officials at the school. The note suggested that the parents take the boy out of school, claiming that he was "too stupid to learn."

The boy's mother read the note and said, "My son Tom isn't 'too stupid to learn.' I'll teach him myself." And so she did.
When Tom died many years later, the people of the United States of America paid tribute to him by turning off the nation's lights for one full minute. You see, this Tom had invented the light bulb—and not only that, but motion pictures and the record player. In all, Thomas Edison had more than one thousand patents to his credit.

    THE ANT PHILOSOPHY

    THE ANT PHILOSOPHY
    1st PART PHILOSOPHY
    ANTS NEVER QUIT
If they’re headed somewhere and you try to stop them, they’ll look for another way.
They’ll climb over, they’ll climb under, they’ll climb around.
They keep looking for another way.

    LESSON:
To never quit looking for a way to get where you’re
    supposed to go.
    2nd PART PHILOSOPHY
    ANTS THINK WINTER ALL SUMMER
You can’t be so naïve as to think summer will last forever.
So ants are gathering their winter food in the middle of summer.
You’ve got to think rocks as you enjoy the sand and sun.
LESSON: It is important to be realistic. Think ahead.
    3rd PART PHILOSOPHY
    ANTS THINK SUMMER ALL WINTER
During the winter, ants remind themselves, “This won’t last long; we’ll soon be out of here.”
At the first warm day, the ants are out.
If it turns cold again, they’ll dive back down, but then they come out the first warm day.
LESSON: Stay positive at all times.

    Investing as a sport?

    Investing as a sport?

I said last week that money doesn't generally buy happiness, but the lack of it can buy absolute misery. This, by the way, is not just my personal observation. It is the conclusion of some of the most respected happiness researchers (Yes, there is such a thing -- read my book.)

The trouble is that we have to pay attention to money more when we lack it than when we have it. This doesn't seem fair, but the Lord works in mysterious ways.

Most people are invested in the stock market, either directly or through mutual funds, pension plans or some other vehicle. So it is hard not to be part of the Panic Crowd. But I ,in all my financial wisdom, have two golden rules to offer. These may not make you rich, but they will keep you happy. Most people are invested in the stock market, either directly or through mutual funds, pension plans or some other vehicle. So it is hard not to be part of the Panic Crowd. But I ,in all my financial wisdom, have two golden rules to offer. These may not make you rich, but they will keep you happy.

Number One: Place your investments in the safest vehicles possible (Do as I say, not as I do!) and forget about them. When the next recession ends, take inventory and see that you still have investments. Most of us don't get a rush out of watching our investments plunge or yo-yo up and down. Most people are happier when they forget they even have investments.

Number Two: If you are one of those people with a terminal case of Itchy Trading Finger, then you probably would not be happy ignoring your investments. Place aside what you need for the long term, such as retirement if your heart lasts that long. Don't play with this money. Don't touch it. Trade only with "extra" money. The rest of you are asking, "What's that?", but Itchy Trading Fingers know what I'm talking about. They view stock trading as a sport.

In fact, stock trading is a sport. Much more than, say, hunting. Think about it. In a sport, two equal opponents square off against one another. "Let the best one one win." Each faces the same challenges. Each is armed with the same weapons. Each has an equal chance of feeling the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat (unless, of course, you happen to be the Tampa Bay Devil Rays).

Imagine the play-by-play if hunting truly was a sport: "Man is closing in. He's coming up from behind and rounding to the south side. He's raising his rifle. Deer doesn't even appear to notice. Oh, I can't watch. This is going to be a massacre. Wait! Deer has just bucked up and twisted. He spins around a tree, and -- look! Deer has a rifle too. He aims. He shoots! He Kills!!! Man is down. What an upset, ladies and gentlemen."

In real life, Deer doesn't win very often. In fact, I estimate that Man is about 4.3 gazillion times more likely to be defeated by his own team mate than by the opposition. We call this "friendly fire".

Contrast this to Itchy Trading Finger, who stands an equal chance of striking gold or of moving into a cardboard box on the street corner. The stock market truly is sport, for those who choose to treat it that way. Which is why it is so important to put aside -- in safe, secure investments -- the money you feel you need for your future. That way, when Itchy Trading Fingers retire, they can move out of the cardboard box.

For the rest of us, we are happier getting our sport watching monster trucks crush WWF actors. Oops! There I go again, mixing my sports and my metaphors, not to mention ignoring several federal safety standards. May your investments be safer than my WWF friends, and may you sleep well at night.

    The Reality of Arranged Marriages

Arranged marriages have been a topic of interest for centuries. Authors across the ages have explored this theme at length, and it still surfaces in literary works today. What's the appeal? Is it the fascination with the lack of lust and desire we cultivate in North American society?

We strive on the element of danger, of the forbidden, while an arranged marriage is usually a safe way to ensure a family's approval of a union.

And yet, many of today's romance novels deal with marriages of convenience. We've all read them: the heroine marries the hero because she needs him, whether for financial reasons, or because her children need a father -- there are as many reasons to marry as there are novels dealing with this subject. Yet although the marriage isn't initially based on love, there's always that sensual tension simmering beneath the surface, and as readers, we know it's inevitable that the two are going to fall deeply and irrevocably in love.

But what about real life, where things don't always work out so well? Arranged marriages are commonplace in a number of countries, such as Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Japan and India. They're more common than you'd think even in North America, where cultural diversity is cherished and encouraged.

Young people in countries where arranged marriages are commonplace are told from an early age that their spouse will be chosen for them. To deny an arranged marriage is seen as a sign of disrespect toward the family. But how are suitable spouses chosen? In Japan, for instance, "when a woman reaches the marriageable age of 25, she and her parents compile a packet of information about her, including a photograph of her in a kimono and descriptions of her family background, education, hobbies, accomplishments and interests. Her parents then inquire among their friends and acquaintances to see if anyone knows a man who would be a suitable husband for her" (the Asia Society's Video Letter from Japan: My Family, 1988). Usually, the most important aspect of choosing a suitable spouse is the bond between the two families, rather than the relationship between the couple being married. Property or land with the aim of securing social status sometimes seals marriage agreements.

Do arranged marriages work? Opinions tend to differ. Statistics place the divorce rate for arranged marriages much lower than those in the United States, where marriages out of love are the rule. However, research also shows that the pressure a married couple encounters from both society as a whole, and from the respective families, suggests that divorce is often not an option.

Can love grow out of an arranged marriage? Absolutely, and in the same way that love can grow in romance novels from a marriage of convenience. But there's more to love than finding a suitable match. Love can grow for many reasons, from lust at first sight to friendship that develops over a long period of time. It's impossible to predict whether a union will be successful. The only two people who can make it work are the bride and groom, the hero and heroine of their own story.

    Effect of Color on Behavior

    Effect of Color on Behavior

Are you planning to repaint your house? Psychologists believes that colors has effect on behavior.

According to Maria Simonson, Ph.D., Sc.D., a behaviorist, the color you pick for a room will have some sort of effect on its occupants. In fact, it has been found out that kids learn better in brightly colored rooms.

So, if you want to have a relaxing dinning room and you are staying in cool climates, better paint your dining room with off-white, tan, pale gold or beige color.

And, if you are staying in a warmer climate, better paint your it with cool blue or green color. But, if you want your family’s appetite especially kids’ appetite to be stimulated better paint it with warm colors like yellow, orange or red.

If you want to have a good night sleep or an optimal sleeping conditions, pale pink, mauve and lavender colors are great for cooler climates. Pale blue, pale green and beige are good relaxing colors for those with hot climates. If you are suffering from lack of sleep, why not repaint your room?

Color your rooms to make it more homey to the occupants than just an ordinary room because color could greatly affect one’s behavior.

The Magic of Believing - Suggestion is Power

The Magic of Believing - Suggestion is Power

"Thought attracts that which it is directed" explains Claude Bristol in The Magic of Believing. Bristol goes on to give valuable life-changing advice for anyone who desires more in their life.

Bristol's masterpiece, written in 1948, opens with his description of how he was able to tap into the power of belief.

His path, at first rambled through a succession of failures and mediocrity. Filled with countless personal anecdotes and real life stories, he shares his own journey of how he was able to transform his own life.

The Magic of Believing is full of examples in all fields where supreme concentration and self-belief not only overcame obstacles but created perfection. He describes both professional and amateur athletes whose belief in self produced incredible accomplishments. He uses illustrations of all manner of ordinary people who were able to accomplish the extraordinary.

The underlying source of all achievement, according to Bristol, is belief. Belief alone, however, is not the answer. You must also enlist the power of the subconscious. This can be done through the repetition of words or phrases which will allow the subconscious to set events into motion for you.

Bristol gives a number of practical techniques which can be used immediately, to produce results. One method is called the "mirror technique". He instructs you to stand in front of a mirror, for 5 to 10 minutes, and tell yourself what you want to accomplish. This should be done at least twice a day. He reveals how this simple exercise will cause your desires to seep into your subconscious and soon become a reality.

"Positive creative thought" he concludes "leads to action and ultimate realization. Remember always whatever man can conceive mentally he can bring into materialization."

Use The Magic of Believing as a tool, to bring your thoughts, wishes and desires into your life. Read it. Re-read it. Then, believe it. The Magic of Believing is in you.
